The World Series of Poker leaders who manage the Poker Hall of Fame have decided to announce the nominees for the 2023 class just hours before the final table of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.
These are beacons of hope:
- Josh Ariel
- Jeremy Osmus
- Ted Forrester
- Kathy Libert
- Mike Matuso
- Ron McEachern and Norman Chad
- Brian Last
- Matt Savage
- Isai Scheinberg
- Bill Smith
It must have been a tough call because, as many have pointed out, the
Matt Savage or Isai Scheinberg were supposed to be there, but they’ve been waiting for years. Mike Matusow has also been trying to get a spot. Several new members have been added this year, including Kathy Liebert, the first woman to regularly work with the tournament elite at major tournament final tables.
Well, with Brian Rast‘s win all of those doubts suddenly evaporated, it would be illogical for him to be denied entry when the PPC champion was just out. Daniel Negreanu pointed out that if he was overqualified before, he is now excluded.
For HOF, @tsarrast’s case is strong
He is on the verge of winning his sixth bracelet and third win at the PPC’s most prestigious mixed game event, as well as winning the SHRB title
For decades, he has been a feared high-stakes cash pro in limit and high-stakes poker
He has broken the standard

Rast played the final game, knocking all opponents out of the final table. British millionaire Talal Shakerchi easily lost the FT lead but bounced back and tried to fend off a desperate HU as the three-time champion’s rising chips left him with no chances.

Event #44 $3,000 NLHE
Yang Zhang $717,879 (1,735 players)
The $3,000 winner is an apt explanation for the WSOP 2023’s stellar performance.
Zhang is already a regular at the festival, including an appearance at the magical 50th anniversary event in 2019. Unexpectedly, the flu pandemic paralyzed all air traffic and he had to miss her while serving his sentence. Many places have not adjusted the health calendar to respond to reckless American liberalism, and many people are afraid to return to old habits immediately. 2023 is the first year of normalcy after the epidemic, and Paris and the Horseshoe City are just as crowded.
Event #47 $1,500 Horses
Yuri Dzivielevski $207,678 (836 players)
Yuri Martins’ third bracelet was probably the easiest for him. He emerged as the chip leader on day two and remained unassailable until his decision was made, watching the action through multiple levels.
Event #49: $1,500Super Turbo Bounty
Wang Pengfei $270,700 (2,226 players)
Pengfei Wang
Wang is the ultimate recreational gambler, an amateur who gambles privately with friends and occasionally at cash tables in Los Angeles casinos. Super Turbo Bounty was the only tournament he played in during his lifetime. It’s hard to understand, but that’s the magic of tournament poker.
There was room for two hands in the early stages of the tournament, won by Yuri Dzivilievski, who was eliminated by Jorge Ufano for second on the day (27th, $5,887).
With all doubles combinations eliminated and only one Spaniard contributing a new senior division record of over 8,000, Ricardo Graells, Day 2 of the $10,000 PLO Championship was particularly intense.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse get delayed login reinforcements from real-time cash game player Sergio Martinez. The surge slowed before the bubble, and neither new additions Lautaro Guerra nor José Garcia “Klaus” reached the bubble.
That leaves us with two players, Ka Kwan Lau and José Manuel Planells . We say “leave” because they both made the long journey from the eventual winner in Game 110 to the last knockout of the day in Game 43 without losing a chip.
A last-minute double all-in on him reduced the chances of “cesepimps,” who was currently losing average speed, correctly marking Kaju’s stack.
